AI Prompts for Home Office Design

A home office prompt works when it says where the desk goes, how wide it is, what the chair is, where things are stored and where the daylight comes from. Most home offices are a corner of another room, so the location sentence matters more than the style. Each prompt below is shown with the image it produced.
1. Desk in a bedroom corner
A home office in a bedroom corner, 1.4 metre desk in birch plywood, an ergonomic chair in grey fabric, a monitor on an arm, a pegboard with scissors and tape, a desk lamp, cables visible under the desk, a mug. Daylight from a window on the left. Eye-level photo, 35mm lens, nothing tidied for the picture.

The bed is in frame, the cables are visible and the pegboard is in use. 'Nothing tidied for the picture' is the line that makes it honest.
2. Study with built-in shelving
A small study with built-in shelving: floor-to-ceiling shelves painted in muted blue #5B7083, an oak desk built into the alcove, a leather chair, books stacked both ways, a brass picture light, a wool rug on a dark wood floor. Rainy afternoon, lamp on. Photographed from the door, 28mm lens, slight grain.

The hex code gave muted blue shelving, with the desk built into the alcove. 'Books stacked both ways' is a small instruction with a large effect.
3. Fold-down desk under the stairs
A desk under the stairs: a wall-mounted fold-down desk in white, a slim stool, two floating shelves, a clip-on lamp, a laptop, a corkboard with pinned notes. Hallway daylight, slightly dim. Phone photo, slightly crooked, deep focus, unedited colour.

A real small-space answer: wall-mounted desk, stool, two shelves, a clip lamp. The slightly dim hallway light is right for the location.
4. One long desk for two
A shared home office for two: one long 2.4 metre desk along the wall in walnut, two different chairs, two monitors, a shelf above with box files and a plant, an acoustic felt panel in terracotta, grey carpet tiles. Even daylight from a skylight. Eye-level photo, 24mm lens, straight verticals, a backpack on the floor.

The 2.4 metre desk, two different chairs and the terracotta felt panel all came back. The French run added two people at the desk although none were asked for; write 'no people' if that matters.
5. Garden-room office
A garden-room office: timber-lined cabin interior, a standing desk at the window facing the garden, a daybed with a blanket, a small wood stove, plywood floor, a bicycle helmet on a hook. Bright spring morning, green light from the garden. Eye-level photo, 28mm lens, natural colour.

Timber lining, standing desk at the window, daybed and stove. 'Green light from the garden' tinted the room the way a real garden room is tinted.
What these five runs showed
- Say where the office is: bedroom corner, alcove, under the stairs, garden room.
- Give the desk a width in metres and a material.
- Name the storage; an office without it looks like a showroom.
- Put the window on one side and say which.
- Add 'no people' if you want an empty room.
- Leave the cables in. They are why the image looks like a place where work happens.

What should an AI prompt for a home office include?
Where the desk goes, its width and material, the chair, the storage and the direction of daylight.
How do I prompt a very small home office?
Name the exact spot, such as under the stairs or an alcove, and ask for a wall-mounted or fold-down desk.
Can AI plan my office from a photo of my room?
It can show a furnished version of your photo. Check the measurements yourself before buying a desk.
Why did people appear in my image?
Models sometimes add them to offices. One of our runs did; 'no people' in the prompt prevents it.
How these prompts were tested
Each prompt on this page was run once in English and once in French on 5 October 2026 with Google's Gemini 3.1 Flash Image model. The images are those results, resized and otherwise untouched. That is one run per language: the same prompt can return a different image next time, and other tools will answer differently. Where a run went wrong, we say so.
